With dangerous heat forecast for the next few days, the Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department reminds you to use caution when trying to cool your home.

Electric Air Conditioning units should NEVER be plugged into a power strip.

Also, using an extension cord for a large appliance like an air conditioner is dangerous unless you buy a properly rated cord.

Remember Air Conditioners have Air Filters. In order for the machine to function properly it needs proper air flow. Ensure there is unrestricted access outside the unit and be sure to regularly clean the internal air filter(s).
