The Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department had the honor of participating in the annual event: Battle of the Minds, hosted by the Rotary Club of Waynesboro.
Members of the administration, operations, and juniors attended & participated in the event.
The department spoke shortly during the event to briefly explain our mission and what the funds would be assisting in.
“These funds will assist us to continue organizing and conducting safety workshops, training sessions and awareness programs that educate on fire prevention, emergency preparedness and first aid trainings such as CPR, Narcan use and Stop the Bleed. These funds will assist the department to host such programs at our facility with expert trainers and emergency medical providers in a no-cost or low-cost manner.
Currently the department provides smoke detectors to those we service at no-cost and these funds would help us to continue this program. Smoke detectors are vital to save lives. Our operational members have visited the neighborhoods of recent house fires, going door-to-door checking to see if smoke detectors are present in the homes and working, and if not, provide these valuable tools.
The WVFD believes that investing in the education and engagement of our youth is critical to build a safer and stronger community. Currently we have a Junior Firefighter program within our organization that educates young minds 14 years and older about fire safety, emergency response activities, and the role of a fire department in ensuring the well-being of the community. This program serves as a unique career exploration opportunity for youth considering a career in the fire service. These members can explore their interest with the department and then can attend courses at the Franklin County Career and Technology Center.”
A huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Waynesboro for going alongside us and allowing us to participate in their annual event!
